Senator Ali Ndume from Borno South has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s appointments, arguing they violate constitutional guidelines.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ndume expressed concern that the appointments do not reflect the principle of federal character as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution. In an interview with Arise News on Monday, the former Senate Chief Whip urged the President to start addressing the imbalance.

“You can check the data — I’m not just making baseless accusations. It’s not about the President lacking the power to appoint, but Section 14.3 of the Constitution is very clear on this matter. Political appointments are supposed to reflect federal character. This isn’t a technical appointment like making a non-soldier the Chief of Army Staff. This is about political roles where diversity must be considered,” Ndume explained.

“This Could Backfire”

The senator warned that continued disregard for constitutional provisions could lead to serious consequences. He emphasized that his critique was not personal, but part of his duty as a lawmaker.

“If these issues aren’t corrected, they could eventually boomerang. People say I’m critical of the government — and rightly so. That’s my job in the National Assembly: to oversee executive actions and raise the alarm when necessary.

“I probably have one of the closest personal relationships with President Tinubu in the North. Still, that won’t stop me from speaking the truth. At the end of the day, each of us will answer to God for what we allowed or ignored.”

“Refute the Message, Don’t Attack the Messenger”

Ndume also called out presidential aides and party loyalists, urging them to focus on the issues he raised instead of launching personal attacks.

“We’re all part of this government. How do we explain this to our constituents? The data is already out there. But after this interview, I know the attack dogs — the so-called Tinubu boys — will start coming for me instead of addressing the facts I’ve presented.

“I’m not just speaking as a senator, but as a concerned Nigerian with the constitutional right to speak up and even protest. These are facts, not fabrications, and instead of attacking Ndume, let’s talk about the message.”
