When the Leadership Group recently conferred the prestigious “Politician of the Year” award on Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, it was more than just a ceremonial accolade—it was an affirmation. An affirmation that the Nigerian people, from every nook and cranny, still recognize and revere the legacy of a man who has consistently stood on the side of truth, justice, and the ordinary Nigerian.

To many, Oshiomhole is a former governor, a fiery labour leader, and now a senator. But to us at Bush Radio Academy and to countless others across this country, he is far more. He is a beacon. A standard-bearer of advocacy. A hero who, even within the austere walls of the National Assembly, continues to be the conscience of the people.

From his days as President of the Nigeria Labour Congress to his fiery governorship of Edo State, Oshiomhole has shown time and time again that leadership is not about titles, but about conviction. His fearless oratory, unshaken by power or protocol, has always echoed the cries of the underserved and forgotten. Whether challenging unjust policies or standing toe-to-toe with the high and mighty, the comrade has never lost his voice—and in doing so, he has helped many of us find ours.

On a personal note, I speak not just as a media practitioner, but as a mentee of Oshiomhole’s ethos. I recall vividly one of our interactions—moments where he didn’t just speak politics, but life. He lectured us on dignity, consistency, and the sacred responsibility that comes with being a voice for the voiceless. Those words weren’t just motivational; they were foundational. Today, my team and I at Bush Radio Academy stand on those very ethics—upholding integrity, truth-telling, and fearless communication in a world often clouded by compromise.

His influence helped shape us—not just as a media movement, but as a moral force. We draw courage from his courage. We take cues from his boldness. We embrace his legacy not just with admiration but with action.

So, when Oshiomhole is honoured with such a national recognition, we do not clap out of obligation—we rise in standing ovation, because we know. We know the trenches he’s fought from. We know the truths he has dared to speak. We know the burdens he’s carried on behalf of millions.

Oshiomhole’s award is not just deserved—it is overdue. And Nigerians everywhere, from the city streets to rural corners, are not just proud—they are vindicated. Because in a world of performative politics, Oshiomhole remains authentic. In an era of echo chambers, he remains a rallying cry.

We at Bush Radio Academy celebrate you, sir. Not just for the award, but for the journey, for the battles, for the truth, and for never, ever forgetting the common man.

You are not just the politician of the year—you are the conscience of a generation.
