In addition, the APC clinched 271 out of 274 councillorship seats, further cementing its political dominance in Niger State.
This was contained in a statement issued to journalists by the Commission’s Commissioner for Operations, Barrister Mohammed Liman, who said the results followed the successful completion of collation and verification across all local councils.
“After a comprehensive review, the Commission confirms the election of candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in all chairmanship positions,” Liman stated.
He named some of the newly elected chairmen as Dr. Mustapha M. Jibrin (Chanchaga LGA), Usman Manko Mohammad (Bida LGA), and Sayuti Ibrahim Halilu (Agaie LGA), among others.
According to the statement, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured only two councillorship seats in Tafa and Rafi Local Government Areas, while one ward election was declared inconclusive pending further review.
Liman emphasized that the commission’s actions were strictly guided by electoral laws and operational guidelines, noting that all Returning Officers submitted their reports without any record of significant disruptions.
He added that arrangements were underway for the formal presentation of Certificates of Return to all newly elected chairmen and councillors, with details on the date and venue to be communicated to stakeholders in due course.
The commission also commended security agencies, election observers, political parties, the media, and voters for their cooperation and peaceful participation throughout the exercise.
