Mohammed explained that the decision followed the receipt of the Certified True Copy (CTC) of a recent judgment by the Federal High Court, Abuja, delivered by Justice Omotosho in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/2120/2025.

He made this known during a press briefing on Wednesday alongside the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and members of the National Working Committee (NWC).

“The National Leadership of the PDP under my watch, in collaboration with our National Secretary, wishes to inform the Nigerian public that we have received the Certified True Copy of the judgment of the Federal High Court, Abuja,” Mohammed said.

He added that the party’s National Legal Adviser, Ajibade K.A. (SAN), had reviewed the legal implications of the ruling, after which the PDP filed an appeal before the Court of Appeal to seek further judicial interpretation.

“In adherence to due process and our commitment to the rule of law, the PDP has suspended and cancelled the planned Ibadan National Convention pending the outcome of the appeal,” Mohammed stated.

“Proceeding with the convention at this stage would amount to contempt of court and a violation of the rule of law, which our party will not condone,” he added.

Mohammed further disclosed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which was a party to the suit, has been formally notified of the PDP’s decision to suspend the convention in compliance with the court’s directive.

Addressing reports of an ex-parte order from a High Court in Oyo State, Mohammed maintained that such an order cannot override a subsisting judgment of the Federal High Court.

“We shall continue to act only in accordance with valid judicial authority and the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he affirmed.
