Speaking during a press briefing held in honour of his 70th birthday, Shekarau reflected on his life’s journey, expressing gratitude to God for sustaining him through the years without regrets.

He clarified, however, that his continued participation in politics does not imply that he is seeking any elective position.

“I have always maintained that politics is part of my religion, and with that belief, I see no day I will step out of the political circle,” he stated.

“In my lifetime, I have witnessed many things, but I thank God for preserving me in good health to continue my political journey. Remaining in politics doesn’t mean I’m contesting for office — my involvement goes beyond that; it’s rooted in my convictions.”

The former minister also expressed deep concern over Nigeria’s worsening security situation, condemning the rampant killings and violence across the country.

“It is unacceptable that people are being slaughtered like animals. We’re not asking for a total elimination of crime, but it must be reduced to the barest minimum,” he lamented.

On the economy, Shekarau argued that any talk of national growth is meaningless if it fails to improve the living conditions of ordinary Nigerians.

He called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritise protecting citizens’ lives and property while ensuring that government policies deliver tangible benefits to the masses.
