Kebbi Governor Demands Answers: Why Did Soldiers Abandon School 45 Minutes Before Deadly Bandit Raid?
Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has called for a thorough investigation into the actions of the Nigerian military following the recent bandit attack on Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko-Wasago Local Government Area.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The governor alleged that soldiers stationed at the school withdrew just 45 minutes before the bandits launched their assault on the students last week.
Governor Idris is requesting a full probe into the timing of the troop withdrawal and the identity of whoever ordered it.
He made the remarks on Monday while hosting the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, who visited the Government House in Birnin Kebbi to express sympathy over the incident.
“I want to appeal to the National Assembly to summon the military to explain who instructed the officers on duty to pull out. This action requires a thorough investigation. By 3:00 a.m. on that day, the soldiers withdrew, and by 3:45 a.m., the bandits arrived to carry out their evil mission,” the governor said.
Idris also urged governments at all levels to strengthen security measures against banditry, terrorism, and other forms of criminality, warning that the situation is becoming increasingly alarming.
He suggested that certain elements may be deliberately attempting to destabilize Nigeria’s democracy.
The governor expressed concern that bandits are able to move in large numbers across long distances without encountering any security checks, only to retreat into the forest unchallenged.
“What are we doing as a nation? The House must take decisive action on the security situation. I believe some enemies are working to undermine our democracy,” he added.
Despite the challenges, Idris assured that both federal and state authorities are making every effort to rescue the abducted students and reunite them with their families.
Earlier, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen expressed the House’s concern over the incident and affirmed that the government is working tirelessly to address the situation.
“We are here to show our support and concern, especially as you and Mr President are doing everything possible to fix this country. I believe the President is committed to protecting the lives and property of Nigerians,” he said.
