The disclosure was made by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Doro, on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, during the inaugural meeting of the Act Naija Project National Steering Committee in Abuja.

Represented by his aide, Abimbola Fasanu, the minister stated that the ministry is strengthening systems to address poverty, vulnerability, and humanitarian challenges nationwide.

“Key programmes include the Conditional Cash Transfer, Grant for Vulnerable Groups, N-POWER, GEEP, Homegrown School Feeding, and National Social Safety-Net Coordination,” he said.

Dr. Doro added that over 19.78 million households have been verified in the National Social Register, with cash transfers and micro-credit initiatives currently supporting more than 5 million Nigerians, including women and youths across all 774 local government areas.

He also noted that the ministry is collaborating with stakeholders to review and update the National Social Protection Policy (NSPP) to reflect emerging socio-economic realities and align with the administration’s strategic priorities.

Speaking at the inauguration, the minister highlighted that the Act Naija Project complements President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to empower vulnerable households while ensuring transparent and measurable outcomes. “The committee is vital in providing strategic guidance and coordinating efforts across stakeholders,” he said, urging members to serve with integrity.

Earlier, Rev. David Ugolor, Executive Director of the Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice, described the committee’s inauguration as a significant step toward strengthening Nigeria’s social protection framework. He emphasized that the long-term objective is to build a safety-net system that guarantees no Nigerian is excluded from essential social support.
