They Misled The Young Man!” — Wike Names Power Brokers Behind Fubara Peace Deal
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has claimed that Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, was misled by some individuals after endorsing a peace agreement reached before President Bola Tinubu.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Wike made the assertion while addressing supporters during a political gathering in Ogu-Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he spoke extensively on the prolonged political crisis in the state.
According to the minister, the initial peace accord was reached during a meeting with President Tinubu and was endorsed by prominent national figures, including the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and former Rivers State Governor, Peter Odili.
He explained that all parties had agreed to the terms at the meeting but that the agreement later fell apart after Governor Fubara allegedly received conflicting advice upon returning to the state.
“There was a time we met with Mr President and everyone signed the agreement. The NSA, Nuhu Ribadu, signed, and so did Peter Odili,” Wike said.
“However, after they returned home, some people began to mislead the young man, telling him it was all politics and that he should not proceed with the agreement. That was how the crisis persisted and eventually ended up in court, where we secured a clear victory.”
Wike noted that despite the legal outcome, President Tinubu intervened once again in the interest of peace, leading to renewed negotiations.
The former Rivers State governor said he was initially reluctant to engage further with parties who failed to honour agreements but was persuaded by appeals from governors, ministers and legal professionals to give the peace process another chance.
“They assured me things would be different this time. After several meetings with Governor Fubara, we reached a fresh agreement and presented it again before Mr President, with everyone committing to its implementation,” he added.
