Tension has continued to rise in Onitsha since Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, ordered the closure of the market for allegedly disregarding his directive to end the Monday sit-at-home.
Security personnel enforcing the closure have reportedly clashed with protesting traders, while Governor Soludo has warned that the market could face demolition if traders fail to reopen and resume activities next Monday.
Reacting to the situation, Igbokwe stated on Facebook that the ongoing unrest surrounding the market closure suggests that some individuals in Anambra may be supporting insecurity and criminal activities in the state.
He wrote that the events unfolding since Monday, January 26, 2026, give the impression that certain indigenes are aiding violent groups and sponsoring unrest in the South-East.
According to him, Governor Soludo has drawn a clear line by insisting that the market must reopen on Monday or face further consequences, adding that the state—once regarded as a stronghold of the South-East—is now witnessing troubling developments.
Igbokwe accused market leaders of acting as though they are above the law, claiming that their actions reflect sympathy or support for IPOB.
He further warned that the current wave of violence and disorder in the region would soon be brought under control, insisting that authorities would no longer tolerate what he described as madness and criminality.
He urged those involved to choose peace and lawful conduct, stressing that the South-East must be reclaimed from individuals he labelled as criminals and sponsors of mayhem.
He concluded by saying the situation must come to an end and that decisive action would be taken to restore order in the region.
