The strike had been declared over unresolved issues with the Federal Government, including concerns about doctors’ welfare, unpaid salary and promotion arrears, and the delayed release of the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund. Adedeji said the suspension followed assurances from the government, including a reversal of the revised professional allowance and commitments to address other pending demands.

He added that the hospital would temporarily halt the admission of new patients until Wednesday morning to allow for a proper handover of cases to consultants, while stable patients would be discharged during the transition period. He also reiterated the doctors’ commitment to patient care, urging the government to fulfil its promises to prevent future disruptions in the health sector.
