Her reaction followed the Ogun APC Caucus meeting of April 13, 2026, where Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola emerged as the party’s consensus candidate. While reaffirming her commitment to respect the process, Obasanjo questioned how the exercise was conducted, citing troubling incidents during the meeting.
In a statement, she alleged that some of her supporters were denied access to the venue, while two others were reportedly assaulted by a party official and later required medical attention. She said such incidents did not reflect the values of discipline, order, and mutual respect the party stands for.
Obasanjo also expressed disappointment that neither she nor some other aspirants received recognition for their efforts and grassroots mobilisation, even as she noted that aspirants from a particular zone were acknowledged during the proceedings.
Despite her reservations, she congratulated Adeola, reaffirmed her loyalty to the APC and support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, and stressed that she has no intention of leaving the party. She, however, urged the party leadership to pursue a more inclusive process, insisting that genuine unity must be built on recognition, respect, and collective engagement.
