Okpebholo questioned why he should feel threatened, insisting that his administration is aligned with the will of the people. He maintained that the outcome seen in 2023 would not recur, citing what he described as effective leadership in Edo State and strong public support.

He also addressed reactions following Obi’s recent visit to Edo State, which reportedly faced challenges. The governor explained that his comments at the time were meant to ensure Obi’s safety, given what he described as a tense security environment. He said he advised Obi to notify him ahead of any visit so that adequate security arrangements could be made.

According to Okpebholo, Obi’s status as a high-profile figure requires proper protection, and informing the state government would allow better coordination with security agencies.

On national issues, the governor defended Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing him as currently the most popular political figure in the country. He attributed the recent wave of defections by governors to the ruling All Progressives Congress to the administration’s performance.

He argued that such moves would not occur if the president were underperforming, emphasizing that the decisions were made voluntarily by those joining the party.

Okpebholo also praised Tinubu for making bold policy choices, particularly the removal of the fuel subsidy, which he said previous administrations had avoided. In response to criticisms over economic hardship and insecurity, he dismissed opposition voices, suggesting they were unwilling to acknowledge progress unless they were responsible for it.
