The Imo State governor recently declared interest in contesting for the Imo West senatorial seat under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Sources who spoke with Premium Times claimed that the move may be connected to an alleged ambition to become President of the Senate in the incoming National Assembly.
One of the sources further alleged that Uzodimma has reached an understanding with his deputy, Chinyere Ekomaru, regarding a possible resignation arrangement.
According to the claim, the plan involves appointing a new deputy governor who could later act as a “placeholder governor” should Uzodimma eventually leave office to pursue his Senate ambition.
The source was quoted as saying: “The governor is actually fighting to be the Senate President. He’s banking on Tinubu to help secure the position.”
Deputy Governor Reacts
However, the office of Chinyere Ekomaru had earlier dismissed reports suggesting she had resigned as deputy governor.
In a statement released in early May, the office described the claim as false and misleading, urging the public to disregard it completely.
The statement clarified: “This claim, as at this moment and the time it was trending, is entirely untrue and should be disregarded in its entirety.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Chinyere Ekomaru, is currently engaged in official duties as the number two citizen of this great state and continues to serve the state in her capacity as deputy governor.
