Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State, said the North should reciprocate the support the Southwest gave former President Muhammadu Buhari throughout his eight-year tenure in office.

According to him, respecting the power rotation arrangement between the North and South remains important for national unity and political stability.

The lawmaker specifically called on people from the Northwest region to rally behind Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

Yari made the remarks on Saturday during a meeting with Islamic clerics in Talata-Mafara.

He also appealed to religious leaders to intensify prayers for peace, security, and a successful electoral process as the 2027 elections approach.

“The election is around the corner, and this is the time we need prayers. The collaboration between Northern Nigeria and the Southwest is something the Southwest already demonstrated between 2015 and 2023,” he said.

“We in the North-West have no reason not to support Bola Tinubu after the Southwest stood firmly behind Muhammadu Buhari during his two terms from 2015 to 2023.

“I believe this is the time for us to return the gesture.”

Yari further emphasised the importance of maintaining the existing zoning structure between the North and the South, describing it as necessary for political balance and national cohesion.

“We must understand that Nigeria is made up of both the North and the South, and leadership cannot remain permanently in Northern Nigeria,” he stated.

He added that President Tinubu has performed well in office and deserves the support of the North for a second term.

“We have to support President Bola Tinubu for a second term. I think it has become necessary for us to do so,” Yari added.
