The party has officially closed the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for its 2027 presidential ticket, with sources confirming that Obi was the only aspirant who purchased the forms.

However, the NDC has extended the deadline for the collection of Expression of Interest Forms for other elective positions by one week, covering governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and State Houses of Assembly.

The party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, announced that the earlier deadline of 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2026, has now been moved to midnight on Sunday, May 24, 2026.

He clarified that the extension applies only to non-presidential positions, while the presidential Expression of Interest window has been officially closed.

According to the party’s timetable, screening of aspirants who have purchased and completed forms will begin on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, and run until Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

The NDC also stated that collection and submission of Nomination Forms for cleared aspirants will take place between May 20 and May 26, 2026.

The party warned that no further extension will be granted and urged all aspirants to strictly adhere to the guidelines and deadlines.

It directed all candidates to appear for screening and pre-qualification interviews with required documents, including educational certificates, birth certificate or age declaration, passport photographs, voter’s card, party membership card, and curriculum vitae, in six copies.

The party added that screening would be based on factors such as voter sentiment, local considerations, competence, capacity, and character.

It also noted that its affirmative action policy would prioritize women, youths, and persons with disabilities during the selection process.

The NDC encouraged aspirants to embrace consensus-building, stressing that only those cleared after screening would be eligible to obtain nomination forms.

With this development, Peter Obi, who recently left the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the NDC, is widely expected to become the party’s consensus presidential candidate.
