The exercise, which commenced on Tuesday, covers aspirants seeking the party’s tickets for legislative, governorship, and presidential positions.

In a statement, the party confirmed that screening for senatorial, House of Representatives, and state assembly aspirants is currently ongoing at designated centres across the country.

It added that the screening of presidential and governorship hopefuls is being conducted at the national level in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

According to the PDP, the process marks a key step in preparations for the 2027 elections as it vets candidates vying to represent the party at all levels of government.

The statement read in part: “Today, our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), officially commenced its nationwide screening exercise for all aspirants vying for legislative and executive offices on the party’s platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“While the screening of senatorial, federal, and state legislative hopefuls is underway across designated centres nationwide, the high-profile screening of presidential and governorship aspirants is taking place at the national level in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.”

Meanwhile, earlier reports indicated that a PDP faction aligned with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde disclosed that a total of 3,181 aspirants will undergo screening ahead of the polls.

In a statement shared via its handle, the faction announced the constitution of screening committees and appeal panels to oversee the process.

It further broke down the figures, stating that 2,122 aspirants are contesting for state Houses of Assembly seats, 748 for the House of Representatives, 198 for the Senate, 112 for governorship positions, and one for the presidency.

The statement added that the appointments were made in line with the party’s approved timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections, following the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
