I Won’t Accept This!’ — APC Aspirant Sparks Controversy With ₦100m Election Bombshell
An aspirant seeking to represent Ahiazu-Mbaise in the Imo State House of Assembly, Ezechukwu Obinna, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of exploiting aspirants through the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Obinna also condemned what he described as the imposition of a candidate for the constituency seat.
Speaking in a viral video that surfaced on Wednesday, the APC hopeful expressed frustration over the party’s primary election process in Imo State.
According to him, six aspirants obtained forms to contest for the Ahiazu-Mbaise state assembly position, with each candidate allegedly spending more than ₦10 million on form processing after the party promised to conduct a transparent primary election.
“We were six aspirants who bought forms for the Ahiazu-Mbaise seat, and each of us spent over ₦10 million processing them because the party assured us there would be an open primary,” he stated.
Obinna claimed that while the aspirants were preparing for the exercise, reports emerged that another candidate had already been picked without any consultation or voting process.
He further alleged that the chosen candidate had previously contested and lost the House of Representatives primary election.
“While we were getting ready for the primary, we suddenly heard that a woman who lost the House of Representatives primary had been selected as the candidate for the Ahiazu-Mbaise assembly seat,” he alleged.
The aspirant dismissed claims that the contestants agreed to a consensus arrangement, insisting that no meeting was held with Governor Hope Uzodimma or the state APC chairman before the decision was made.
“There was nothing like a consensus agreement. We never had any meeting with the governor or the state party chairman. We only woke up to hear that a winner had emerged,” he said.
Obinna maintained that he would not have objected if one of the six aspirants who purchased forms had emerged through a credible and transparent process.
“My frustration is that if the party had selected one among the six of us who bought forms, it would have been understandable. Instead, they brought in someone who contested for the House of Representatives and lost in the recently concluded primary,” he added.
He also revealed that he had invested more than ₦100 million in both his campaign and support for the APC.
Calling on the party leadership and Governor Uzodimma to intervene, Obinna urged them to allow all aspirants to test their popularity through a fair contest.
“I appeal to the party and the governor, as the leader of the APC in Imo State, to do the right thing by giving all aspirants a fair chance to prove themselves at the polls,” he said.
“Anything contrary to that is unacceptable to me. I cannot spend over ₦100 million only to be treated this way simply because I belong to the APC. This is unfair and completely unacceptable.”
