Yusuf made the appeal during the annual Hawan Nassarawa celebration, stressing that the interest of Kano State must take precedence over personal or political disagreements.
He said his administration remains focused on unity, stability, and progress, adding that collaboration among political leaders is essential for the advancement of the state.
“I call on him to look at Kano, not personal interests, and come on board to join the train of peace and a new Kano that will ensure a stable and progressive state,” the governor said.
Yusuf noted that reconciliation among political actors has become a common practice nationwide, particularly where such efforts serve the broader goals of governance and development. He added that Kano should not be left out of such political reconciliation.
The governor also expressed surprise that Kwankwaso was absent at a recent public function attended by several political leaders, including some who had previously reconciled with their political opponents.
He maintained that Kano requires the cooperation of all stakeholders to effectively address its challenges and ensure inclusive development for its residents.
‘My Humility Not Cowardice’
Responding to perceptions about his leadership style, Yusuf said his calm and humble disposition should not be mistaken for weakness.
“I have never feared anybody in my life. My humility is not cowardice but a reflection of my good nature and closeness to the people,” he said.
He explained that his administration inherited several challenges but has continued to implement reforms aimed at stabilising the state without escalating political tensions.
Yusuf added that his government remains committed to peacebuilding, unity, and long-term development in Kano.
On the suspension of the Hawan Daushe procession two years ago, the governor said the decision was taken purely on security grounds to protect lives and prevent possible unrest.
He reaffirmed that safeguarding citizens remains a top priority of his administration, even when such decisions are difficult or unpopular.
The governor also commended the Emir of Kano, describing him as a symbol of wisdom, unity, and cultural preservation, and pledged continued support for the traditional institution.
Yusuf expressed optimism that future Durbar celebrations would return in full splendour, showcasing Kano’s rich cultural heritage while promoting peace and unity in the state.
