The development was disclosed by the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting held on Monday, presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
Kanu explained that the visit forms part of the Renewed Hope National Media Tour, designed to highlight projects being implemented by President Bola Tinubu’s administration as well as various state governments across the country.
He noted that the media tour will cover all six geopolitical zones, adding that the Abia visit is particularly significant due to the cordial relationship between the state government and the Federal Government.
According to him, this cooperation has resulted in key joint projects, including the airport project and the recently launched Renewed Hope Housing Estate initiative.
He added that the presidential media team will tour different parts of Abia State to inspect road projects and other development efforts spread across the 17 local government areas.
The programme is expected to conclude with a civic reception hosted by Governor Otti in honour of the visiting delegation.
Kanu also announced that operations have commenced at the newly completed ultra-modern bus terminal in Umuahia.
He said transport operators in the informal sector have begun relocating to the facility as part of government efforts to reorganise urban transport in the state capital.
According to him, the rollout will be implemented in phases, beginning with the Abia Green Shuttle buses, followed by informal operators, and later formal transport operators.
He noted that while most operators have accepted the transition, some initial resistance was recorded due to reluctance to change.
He added that about 39 transport operators are affected by the relocation exercise, and enforcement of compliance began on Tuesday.
Kanu explained that the move is aimed at improving order, safety, and efficiency in public transportation within Umuahia.
On infrastructure, he reaffirmed the Otti administration’s commitment to continuous road construction and rehabilitation across the state.
He said ongoing projects are designed to enhance connectivity, open up communities, and stimulate economic activities.
The commissioner also announced that Abia State will join the global community to commemorate the International Day of the Boy Child on June 16, 2026, through the Ministry of Women Affairs in collaboration with the Office of the Governor’s Wife.
He further disclosed plans for activities marking the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, including public sensitisation campaigns on elder rights, protection services, and reporting channels for abuse cases.
Kanu added that the initiative will involve engagement with senior citizens, community leaders, healthcare institutions, and development partners to strengthen protection systems for older persons.
He said the administration remains committed to social welfare, inclusive governance, and policies aimed at improving the quality of life for residents across Abia State.
