Lookman Hits Major Career Milestone As Atletico Madrid Battle Stuttgart To Champions League Draw

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has recorded the 50th assist of his senior club career after helping Atletico Madrid secure a 1-1 draw against VfB Stuttgart in the UEFA Champions League.

The Nigerian international provided the assist for Julian Alvarez’s equalising goal shortly after half-time, helping the Spanish side recover from a difficult first half and earn a valuable away point.

Stuttgart took the lead in the 36th minute through Jamie Leweling, putting Atletico Madrid under pressure before the interval. However, Lookman was introduced at half-time and made an immediate impact, setting up Alvarez just 80 seconds into the second half to restore parity.

According to Bush Radio Academy, citing career statistics published by Transfermarkt, the assist took Lookman’s senior club career tally to 50.

Speaking to Atletico Madrid’s media after the match, Lookman acknowledged Stuttgart’s strong start but praised his team’s response after the break.

He said the team had aimed to change the course of the match in the second half and managed to do so through Alvarez’s equaliser.

Atletico Madrid’s pursuit of a winning goal suffered a setback in the 64th minute when Morten Hjulmand was sent off for a reckless challenge on Angelo Stiller.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, Atletico remained organised and held on to secure a point away from home. Lookman praised his teammates for their determination and collective effort in difficult circumstances.

The forward also expressed confidence in Alvarez’s ability to convert the opportunity, describing the Argentine striker as particularly dangerous inside the penalty area.

Stuttgart pushed for a late winner, but Jeff Chabot failed to hit the target with a header from a Maximilian Mittelstädt corner.

Meanwhile, Nigerian teenager Mubarak Suleiman made a notable appearance for Slavia Prague, starting in their 2-2 away draw against Fenerbahce.

According to Opta statistics cited in the report, Suleiman became the first Nigerian teenager to start a Champions League match since Alex Iwobi featured for Arsenal against Barcelona in March 2016.
