Controversy As American Pastor Introduces Second Wife Alongside F!rst Wife At Church
A United States-based pastor, Israel Ford, has sparked debate online after publicly announcing his marriage to a second wife and challenging the belief that a man should have only one wife.
Ford, who is associated with LifeWorks Church in Wickliffe, Ohio, made the announcement on Facebook on Sunday, sharing a video recorded at the church in which he introduced Shakayla Ford as his second wife. He also indicated that his first wife, Lydia Ford, was present.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the pastor argued that the belief that men should have only one wife was a teaching passed down through society rather than a position he considered consistent with biblical teachings.
Ford stated that he intended to address the subject in greater detail during a sermon, encouraging his followers to watch the full message when it becomes available.
He acknowledged that his position might be unpopular and could lead some people to disagree with him or distance themselves from his ministry. Nevertheless, he maintained that he would not abandon what he believes God had revealed to him simply to gain public approval.
The pastor also expressed acceptance of the possibility that some followers might choose to disconnect from him because of his views, insisting that he remained committed to his convictions.
His announcement has drawn attention to differing interpretations of biblical teachings on marriage, particularly the debate surrounding monogamy and polygamy within Christian communities.
While some biblical accounts describe men who had multiple wives, Christian denominations differ in how they interpret those accounts in relation to marriage today. Ford’s public declaration has therefore prompted renewed discussion about religious doctrine, personal convictions and the expectations placed on church leaders.
The announcement and the pastor’s stated position have circulated on social media, although the full context of his planned sermon was not included in the account.
