Mr Eazi Claims He Turned Down Chelsea Move Before John Obi Mikel Joined The Club
Nigerian singer Mr Eazi has claimed that he turned down a potential move to Chelsea Football Club before former Super Eagles midfielder John Obi Mikel joined the English Premier League side.
The singer made the revelation during an interview with Beat FM, where he spoke about choosing a career in music over football and explained why he believed Mikel was better suited to the sport.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Mr Eazi said he and Mikel were both linked to a possible move to Chelsea, but he ultimately decided to pursue his musical ambitions while the former Nigerian international went on to play for the London club.
“They were gonna sign me. So it was like me and Mikel Obi,” the singer said while recounting the alleged opportunity.
Mr Eazi explained that he believed Mikel had greater potential in football, while he considered music a field in which he could build a successful career. He jokingly suggested that Mikel lacked the talent needed to become a musician, whereas he was confident in his own musical abilities.
“I just thought that Mikel Obi is not, he doesn’t have talent as a musician. But I can do that. So I let Mikel go to Chelsea,” he said.
The singer drew a comparison between the story and his approach to the music industry, explaining that he was comfortable stepping aside to allow other artistes to enjoy the spotlight while he continued pursuing his personal ambitions.
Mr Eazi said his decision to focus on his own goals did not mean he had to compete for attention at every opportunity. Instead, he suggested that success could also involve giving others room to thrive while working towards individual achievements.
He further referenced fellow Nigerian singer Seyi Vibez, whom he humorously described as a great Nigerian philosopher because of his message about allowing others to succeed.
Emphasising the phrase, “Let your brother shine,” Mr Eazi said he was comfortable with other artistes taking centre stage while he concentrated on his own pursuits.
His comments have drawn attention to his claimed football opportunity and his philosophy of success, although the account of the potential Chelsea signing remains his own assertion.
