You May Return With Just Your Bag — Lady Warns Women Against Depending On Rich Husbands

Published

A Nigerian woman has advised married women against abandoning their careers or businesses simply because they are married to financially stable men, stressing the importance of maintaining personal income and savings.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the woman shared the advice in a video posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, where she reflected on lessons she had learnt from marriage and the need for women to establish financial independence.

She explained that a husband’s wealth does not automatically guarantee his wife long-term financial security, warning that women who depend entirely on their partners could face difficulties if their marriages eventually break down.

Using a wealthy husband as an example, she noted that a woman could enjoy a luxurious lifestyle, including access to a mansion, expensive cars and other benefits, without necessarily owning those assets herself.

She argued that if the marriage ended, the woman might have to leave behind the properties and possessions she had enjoyed during the relationship.

The woman questioned why some women stopped working, pursuing their businesses or developing their careers after marrying financially successful men.

According to her, marriage should not prevent women from building their own financial resources, regardless of their husbands’ wealth or willingness to provide for them.

She encouraged women to continue working, investing in their businesses and setting aside savings to secure their financial future.

The woman further cautioned against assuming that access to a husband’s money automatically translates into personal wealth, emphasising the distinction between enjoying a partner’s financial resources and having assets or income of one’s own.

She urged women to remain committed to their personal development and financial goals while managing their marital responsibilities.

Her message concluded with a call for women to take their financial security seriously and avoid becoming entirely dependent on their spouses.

The video has drawn attention to discussions about financial independence within marriage, with the woman’s advice highlighting the importance of personal savings, career development and financial preparedness, even in relationships where one partner is significantly wealthier than the other.
