President Bola Tinubu on Thursday received a delegation of prominent leaders from Nigeria’s Middle Belt region at the Presidential Villa in Aso Rock, Abuja, amid growing political activities ahead of the 2027 general election.

The meeting was confirmed by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, who shared photographs of the gathering on his X account.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, disclosed that the delegation visited Tinubu to appreciate his administration and formally declare their support for his re-election bid in 2027.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Dogara also expressed confidence in the administration’s handling of insecurity, claiming that security conditions had improved across parts of the Middle Belt since Tinubu assumed office.

He specifically cited the Abuja-Kaduna highway, which he said had become safer for motorists and travellers.

“Insecurity is declining in the Middle Belt. The Abuja-Kaduna road is safer now,” Dogara stated.

The former Speaker added that the delegation discussed strategies for strengthening political cooperation and mobilising support for Tinubu across communities in the region ahead of the presidential election scheduled for January 16, 2027.

Also speaking after the meeting, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang expressed optimism over growing cooperation among young people from different ethnic and religious backgrounds.

He noted that youth leaders were increasingly engaging in discussions about the region’s future without necessarily waiting for government intervention, describing the development as encouraging.

“Youth leaders across the divides of faith and ethnicity are beginning to have conversations without even government support. This is quite encouraging to me that there is light at the end of the tunnel,” Mutfwang said.

Other prominent members of the delegation included Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.); Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas; former Chief of Army Staff, General T.Y. Danjuma (retd.); and former Chief of Army Staff, General Ishaya Bamaiyi.

The meeting comes as political leaders and groups continue to build alliances and mobilise support ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
