The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) recently executed a significant operation resulting in the apprehension of a notorious drug lord while he was instructing a courier to ingest 93 wraps of cocaine at a hotel in Lagos. This arrest exemplifies the relentless pursuit of the agency in its fight against drug trafficking and abuse.
The drug lord’s arrest was part of an extensive operation that also led to the recovery of approximately 12.4 million pills of opioids and 6,921.5 kg of skunk, a potent form of cannabis. The enormous scale of these seizures speaks to the enormity of the drug crisis Nigeria is currently grappling with.
In a further bid to curb the cultivation and distribution of illicit substances, the NDLEA carried out successful operations in Ondo and Edo states, destroying 33 hectares of cannabis plantations. The agency’s actions reflect its commitment to dismantling the entire chain of drug production and trafficking.
Moreover, the NDLEA successfully intercepted another shipment of the cannabis concentrate known as Colorado, coming from Canada. The repeated attempts to import this substance highlight the challenges faced by the agency and reinforce the importance of maintaining robust and proactive border control measures.
