Ademola-Olateju stated, “The creation of these LCDAs has received executive approval. Our commitment to upholding the confidentiality of this process is reinforced by the oaths of secrecy we’ve taken in our roles. Despite the occurrence of leaks, which I condemn, I consider them inappropriate.”
She further elucidated, “The government consists of three branches. While the executive has initiated this process, it requires validation from the House of Assembly.
Releasing such information to the media prematurely undermines the authority of the Assembly. There are factors such as political interests and other considerations that the Assembly deliberates upon.
So, even if we demarcate, for instance, Akure South Local Government into three LCDAs, the Assembly might decide to approve only two. If we shared the details publicly, it would necessitate alterations if the Assembly’s decisions differ.”
Ademola-Olateju concluded, “It is indeed true that 33 LCDAs have been introduced alongside the existing 18 local government areas.
However, the matter remains open for debate, ratification, and the governor’s assent. Therefore, the list that has been circulating is not endorsed by us, as it is premature and inappropriate.”
