Furthermore, during the tumultuous events, approximately 45 individuals were apprehended by law enforcement personnel who were summoned to reestablish order. In response, Governor Ahamdu Fintiri enforced a 24-hour curfew.
The IGP, in a statement issued on Tuesday, disclosed these developments. He mandated that State Commissioners of Police guarantee the non-recurrence of such lamentable incidents.
Additionally, the IGP highlighted some recent accomplishments of the police force, noting that 986 suspects linked to armed robbery have been detained, while roughly 517 individuals accused of rape have also been arrested in recent periods.
Addressing the subject of revoking the prohibition on possessing firearms for self-defense, the IGP clarified that the prohibition on procuring and obtaining licenses for firearm ownership remains in effect.
He did, however, indicate that the policy might undergo reassessment in the future, though at present, there are no intentions to distribute weapons for self-defense.
The IGP also unveiled the establishment of the Nigeria Police Cyber Crime Centre, an entity geared towards managing cybercrime concerns.
