Ukwen shared the grievous news of a recent attack that transpired on Tuesday, leading to the loss of three lives and the destruction of valuable properties worth millions of naira. He lamented that innocent lives were needlessly taken in these brutal attacks.
The president-general disclosed that the recent surge in violence has been particularly pronounced, resulting in the deaths of more than 100 people within a 12-month period.
He recounted the tragic tale of a conflict that initially ignited over a dispute concerning farmland, which ultimately escalated into a series of attacks that have left entire villages devastated.
Ukwen stated, “Since then, our communities have been under attack from one village to the other. As we speak, at least 59 villages have been displaced.”
Research unveiled that several villages have fallen victim to these violent assaults, leaving residents without their lives and possessions.
Among the affected villages are Tati, Fawen Simta, Bassan, Muji 1, Muji 2, Tukog, Kumbo, and many others. This disturbing trend of attacks has raised concerns and prompted the Kuteb community to call upon the federal government to intervene and address the tragic situation.
The state police public relations officer (PPRO) countered claims of police being overwhelmed, asserting that the security forces are actively addressing the situation. The PPRO also clarified that there are no internally displaced persons (IDPs) camps in the Takum region.
