She shared her concern about the dire economic conditions that are leading to severe hunger and malnutrition among children.
Mrs. John shared, “We’ve been facing extreme difficulties for over two months now. We are surviving on just one meal a day, barely managing to get by. Our existence is entirely dependent on the kindness of others.”
A widow with five children, Aisha Mohammed, who sells bean balls (akara), also highlighted the severity of the hunger crisis. She disclosed that the financial strain has affected her ability to pay for her children’s school fees, and the profits from her business barely cover transportation expenses due to the escalating prices of food and the elevated cost of commuting.
“The circumstances in our country are grim and discouraging. The challenges we’re facing are overwhelming,” Aisha said.
The women’s collective plea to President Tinubu was for him to consider implementing measures that reduce the extravagant costs associated with governance and to reconsider policies that disproportionately burden disadvantaged Nigerians.
