The affected deputy inspectors-general are Dan-Mallam Mohammed, Moses Ambakina Jitiboh, Hafiz Mohammed Inuwa, and Adeleke Adeyinka Bode.

According to Ikechukwu Ani, the spokesperson for the PSC, this decision comes in light of the appointment of Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun on June 19, 2023, by the President.

The commission had expected, in line with the established tradition of discipline and structured culture within the Nigeria Police Force, that those DIGs who held senior ranks before IGP Egbetokun’s appointment would either opt for voluntary retirement or choose to leave the Force.

In the absence of such applications, the PSC made the decision to enforce mandatory retirement. This action aims to uphold discipline, a foundational value of the Force, and to prevent any undermining of authority resulting from status reversal.
