He elaborated that this initiative would provide an opportunity for companies supporting the FCT with logistical resources to participate in market and public space cleaning, facilitating the removal of waste.
Wike stressed the importance of collective sacrifice, emphasizing that everyone has a role to play in waste management. He appealed to residents to allocate three hours on Saturdays to clear refuse from their homes and contribute to maintaining a clean environment.
“We urge you to collaborate with us to achieve our objectives,” Wike urged the citizens.
Discussing the illumination of streets, the minister acknowledged some progress while assuring that full coverage of lighting across Abuja was being worked towards.
Addressing deviations from the Abuja Master Plan, Wike assured corrective measures were forthcoming. He specified that the Federal Capital Territory Administration was in the process of identifying areas designated for parks and greens and those that have been inappropriately built upon.
The minister also indicated that a review would be conducted for properties that have remained undeveloped for extensive periods.
He emphasized that the administration led by President Tinubu would not tolerate vacant lands in the city being exploited by criminals for illegal activities.
Wike asserted, “We can’t permit empty plots within the city to become havens for shanties and criminal activity due to non-development.
There are properties that have been in existence for two decades but remain unfinished. We must take action against this. Our intention is to create a secure environment in Abuja, and to achieve this, we need the collaboration of all stakeholders.”
