“We hold Cuba in high regard, especially your unwavering commitment to Africa,” affirmed Vice President Shettima, acknowledging the pivotal role played by Cuba in the African context.

While acknowledging the fruitful relationship between the two nations, Vice President Shettima emphasized the need to recommit to future collaborations, stating, “Our relationship has consistently been outstanding over the years, and it is imperative to strengthen and expand this partnership further.”

To explore future areas of cooperation, Vice President Shettima was accompanied by the Ministers of Agriculture and Science, Technology, and Innovation, underlining the importance of opportunities in these fields.

Furthermore, Vice President Shettima conveyed a special message from President Bola Tinubu to the President of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel, assuring him of President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to enhancing mutual relations.

In response, the Cuban Vice President commended Nigeria’s leadership role in Africa and the global arena, emphasizing the significant value attached to the relationship with Nigeria. Cuba, considering itself an African State, expressed its readiness to explore new collaborative avenues with Nigeria, especially in the realms of health, biodiversity, and agriculture.

Vice President Shettima’s delegation to Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdez Mesa included the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Abubakar Kyari; Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Uche Nnaji; Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Adamu Lamuwa; and Nigeria’s Ambassador to Cuba, Amb. Ben Okoyen, among other distinguished members.
