In a press statement released on Saturday, IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, conveyed that the group has suffered significant losses, including the lives of over 5,000 members and property worth over $1 billion, due to the excessive use of force by Nigeria’s security forces.

The statement emphasized, “We, the global family and movement of IPOB, wish to reiterate once more that IPOB remains committed to peaceful methods and is open to negotiations and dialogue for the peaceful secession of Biafra from Nigeria, under the supervision of the United Nations through a Referendum.”

“IPOB’s peaceful advocacy for Biafra Independence began in 2012. Throughout our years of rallies and protests, IPOB has never been associated with violence or criminal activities.

Nonetheless, the Federal Government, through its security forces, has waged a war against IPOB. Nigerian security forces have violently confronted our members during peaceful protests in various locations in Biafra Land,” the statement continued.

“As a consequence of these unprovoked attacks, many IPOB members have been brutally killed, some have suffered permanent disabilities, some have been forcefully abducted by security forces, and others are still being unlawfully detained in various detention facilities across Nigeria.”
