In a statement released on Friday by their spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the separatist group cautioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against contributing to a crisis in the state.
They emphasized their commitment to not participating in Nigeria’s political elections, but they would not remain silent if they perceived the Nigerian government using corrupt INEC officials to promote wrongdoing in Imo State.
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), led by Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu KANU, warned INEC not to disrupt the political stability of Imo State during the upcoming gubernatorial election.
They highlighted INEC’s history of fraudulent activities during Nigerian elections, emphasizing its dependence on the ruling government or influential politicians.
IPOB expressed concern that INEC officials must exercise caution to prevent Imo State from descending into crisis by facilitating the renewal of a four-year mandate characterized by suffering, hunger, and violence.
IPOB cited the Supreme Court’s imposition of an unwanted candidate on the people of Imo State, resulting in severe hardship, political intimidation, and widespread violence.
They condemned political parties and governments that are detrimental to the well-being of the people in the Southeastern region.
The statement also accused Governor Hope Uzodinma of fostering an environment of insecurity, not only in Imo State but also in neighboring areas.
It warned those involved in manipulating the electoral process to be mindful of the potential consequences, comparing their actions to inviting trouble, akin to using firewood infested with ants, which indirectly attracts lizards to a gathering.
