Obasanjo called on Nigerian youth to contribute to the development of a green economy and work towards a sustainable environmental future.
He recommended measures like embracing renewable energy, planting trees, using electric vehicles, adopting organic fertilizers, and other eco-friendly practices to address the challenges of climate change.
Obasanjo emphasized that climate change, driven by human activities, has led to problems such as flooding, extreme droughts, pollution, and deforestation.
He pointed out that the consequences include rising sea levels, floods, droughts, and food insecurity.
The former president stressed that reducing carbon emissions from fossil fuels is crucial, and he encouraged the adoption of renewable energy sources like wind and solar power, as well as electric vehicles.
Obasanjo also highlighted the significance of planting more trees to absorb carbon dioxide and proper waste management, including recycling, to help mitigate the effects of climate change.
He called on young people to take leadership in these areas and contribute to the green economy, ultimately reducing the challenges posed by climate change.
