Beware! Nigerian Army Exposes Fake Facebook Accounts Mimicking Military Commanders

In a statement shared on Sunday through the army’s official X account, the military revealed that fraudsters had created counterfeit accounts to deceive and defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.

According to the statement, some of the fake profiles were created in the name of the Deputy Chief of Standards and Evaluation, Maj. Gen. Raymond Utsaha, while others used the photograph of the Chief of Policy and Plans, Maj. Gen. Bamidele Alabi.

“The Nigerian Army wishes to categorically state that the said Facebook accounts are fake and were created with malicious intent to defraud individuals through false representations and unauthorised online engagements,” the statement said.

The army urged Nigerians to ignore any messages, friend requests, financial demands, or unofficial interactions originating from the fake accounts.

It stressed that senior military officers do not conduct official business, award contracts, request financial support, or handle sensitive matters through personal social media platforms or unofficial online channels.

The military also called on the public to remain alert and report suspicious accounts or activities to relevant security agencies.

“The general public is urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious accounts or activities to the appropriate security agencies,” the statement added.

The Nigerian Army further assured that it would continue tracking and taking necessary action against individuals or groups involved in cyber impersonation and other fraudulent activities online.
