The deputy governor expressed confidence in defeating Obaseki’s favored candidate, citing the support of the people of the state and their clear preferences.
Shaibu attributed their differences to Obaseki allowing specific individuals with governance aspirations to create a divide between them.
He remarked, “Certainly, I will triumph over the governor’s chosen candidate, not because of my influence, but because the people of Edo desire someone from their own ranks, and I am their choice. Edo citizens prefer authenticity; they desire someone native to their soil.”
Addressing the discord with the governor, Shaibu pointed out that Obaseki had permitted certain individuals with political ambitions to interfere in their relationship. He highlighted their divergent management styles, noting that each is handling matters according to their own judgment.
