Highlighting the need for a proactive approach, Chief Adelabu urged government officials to recognize the evolving challenges and acknowledged that the status quo could not persist. He emphasized the importance of addressing various issues within the Power Ministry and its affiliated agencies. Chief Adelabu questioned the current level of delivery on the mandated objectives and urged officials to assess their performance on a scale of 0-10.

The Minister identified human capacity as a crucial factor in overcoming challenges in the power sector. He raised concerns about the adequacy of the current personnel in terms of both quality and quantity. Chief Adelabu challenged officials to evaluate if the existing processes allowed them to meet expectations and emphasized the need for support from both the government and the private sector.

Asserting the government’s commitment to improving power supply across the nation, Chief Adelabu declared, “Nigerians deserve a stable electricity supply. Let us light up Nigeria.”

Chief Adelabu outlined the government’s plans to organize a consumer forum in January, exclusively dedicated to addressing consumer issues related to the new power sector policy. Emphasizing the consumer perspective in all discussions, he noted that the forum would bring together industry players and consumer groups to tackle issues affecting electricity consumers in the country.

Acknowledging the challenges faced by electricity distribution companies (DisCos), including metering, poor network infrastructure, and collection losses, Chief Adelabu disclosed that the policy document emerging from the retreat would contribute to the Integrated Power Policy and Strategic Implementation Plan, a requirement of the Electricity Act 2023.
