In an official statement signed by Archbishop Daniel Okoh, the President of CAN, the organization stood in solidarity with the victims during this period of sorrow. The statement conveyed prayers for comfort and strength, particularly addressing the loss of lives, including those within the Baptist Church in Chirang village.
CAN strongly condemned the acts of violence, emphasizing that the destruction of houses, worship centers, and valuable properties amounted to not only criminal actions but also a direct assault on shared societal values of peace, unity, and mutual respect. The organization underscored the incompatibility of such acts with the principles that underpin a harmonious society.
Acknowledging the swift response of the Military and the deployment of a joint police and military task force to restore peace in the affected communities, CAN commended the efforts of State Governor Caleb Mutfwang in calling for peace and unity amid the adversity.
While appreciating these immediate responses, CAN urged security agencies to intensify efforts in intelligence gathering and proactive interventions to prevent such dastardly acts in the future. The organization emphasized the need to transition from reactive to preventive measures, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of the people.
Affirming faith in the unity and strength of the nation, CAN encouraged the resilience of the people of Plateau State and the entire nation. The organization called for a collective effort to shun violence and embrace the peace and unity essential for the well-being of the nation.
In the spirit of the season, CAN urged everyone to remember the victims and their families not only in prayers but also through tangible support such as reaching out with relief materials. The organization called for empathy and commitment to building a peaceful and prosperous Plateau State and Nigeria as a whole.
