The suspects, armed and on a motorcycle, targeted the Baptist church with the intention of kidnapping children for sale in Benin Republic. A vigilant member of the So-Safe Corps received a distress call and alerted the Divisional Police Officer in the area.
Upon being confronted, the suspects could not provide a reasonable explanation for their presence and attempted to flee. Following a thorough interrogation, Adeleke confessed to being part of a gang involved in the kidnapping of children for trafficking to Benin Republic.
The Ogun State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police CP Abiodun Alamutu, is actively pursuing leads obtained from Adeleke to apprehend the remaining members of the criminal syndicate. The police are intensifying efforts to combat the alarming trend of kidnappers targeting remote communities after increased security measures on highways.
Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police, emphasized the importance of community involvement in security efforts. He urged traditional rulers and community leaders to establish internal security measures to safeguard their communities and provide essential information to aid law enforcement. Odutola reassured the public that the Ogun State Command is committed to eliminating criminal elements and called for cooperation in identifying and reporting suspicious activities in communities.
