Operatives from the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) successfully rescued a middle-aged woman who had attempted suicide by jumping into the Gbodofon River in Osogbo, Osun State. “The Search and Rescue Team of the command received a distress call from a concerned member of the public, and within ten minutes, our officers were on the scene to rescue the victim,” the statement reported.

The middle-aged woman was successfully resuscitated and subsequently transported to the hospital for medical attention. She revealed that she had traveled from Iragbiji to Osogbo with the intention of ending her life by leaping into the Gbodofon (Osun) River.

Explaining her motive, the woman stated that she felt an intense burning sensation in her body, and she believed that the only way to extinguish the fire was by jumping into the Osun River. The NSCDC Commandant, Agboola Sunday, commended the Search and Rescue Team for their swift response and effective application of their disaster management training.

Agboola assured the public of the command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, especially during emergencies. He emphasized the importance of mental health awareness among residents and pledged that NSCDC personnel would closely monitor all rivers in the state to prevent further suicide attempts.
