Recent weeks have witnessed a surge in killings and kidnappings for ransom, creating widespread panic. In response to the alarming security situation, the Senate had previously decided to summon the Service Chiefs to provide explanations.
Senator Abiru informed journalists that due to the upcoming appearance of the Service Chiefs, the Senate opted to postpone the scheduled appearance of the CBN governor to Friday. The committee members convened in Room 211, the designated venue for the planned interface with the CBN governor, from 3 pm to 4.30 pm. Following the resolution, they decided to defer the meeting to Friday at 9 am.
Committee Chairman Abiru explained, “After waiting for close to two hours for the CBN governor on the planned interface, we have resolved to postpone it to Friday this week by 9 am.” He further highlighted that the postponement was due to the ongoing engagement of the CBN governor and other economic officials with the House of Representatives, without clarity on when the session would conclude.
The Senate, in a closed-door session lasting two hours, considered a motion by Senator Ahmad Lawan regarding the passing of former Yobe State governor, Senator Bukar Ibrahim. After observing a minute of silence in honor of the deceased, the Senate established a nine-member delegation to convey condolences to the Governor of Yobe State and the family of the late Senator Ibrahim.
