Andrew emphasized that the NYSC is now prioritizing the safety of its members deployed to the state, leading to the decision to refrain from sending corp members to areas marked by crises and insecurity. In a statement to the press at his office, the coordinator outlined the precautions being taken.

He explained, “We have ceased sending Corps members to Bakassi due to crises and insecurity, and we do not have plans to do so in the future. Similar precautions apply to other volatile communities. Currently, we have only four corps members stationed in Akpabuyo LGA, which has experienced volatility. These four individuals are serving with security agencies and are deemed to be in a safe environment. In cases of emergencies, our zonal coordinators and inspectors are prepared to evacuate them promptly.”

Addressing specific preferences and concerns, Andrew mentioned that individuals averse to water are not compelled to serve in coastal areas. He stated, “We do not force them to go to riverine communities, particularly those with a phobia for rivers.”

Regarding the safety of corps members kidnapped en route to Sokoto State months ago, Andrew confirmed that many have been released, including their driver. However, a small number of corps members are still held by the kidnappers. He assured that the Director-General of the NYSC Scheme has taken proactive measures by relocating to Zamfara State, and the remaining captives are expected to be released soon, as the management team is tirelessly working towards their resolution.
