Why We Arrested 21 Trucks Exporting Food Items To Neighbouring Countries – EFCC Reveals....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has provided insights into the apprehension of 21 trucks carrying various food items and goods destined for neighbouring countries. The Maiduguri zonal command of the anti-graft agency conducted a well-coordinated operation, intercepting the trucks en route to N’djamena, Chad Republic, Central African Republic, and Cameroon along Kalabiri/Gamboru Ngala and Bama Roads in Borno State.
In defense of the agency’s actions, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale explained that the arrests align with its mission to combat economic and financial offenses that pose a threat to the economy and to prevent acts of sabotage. Oyewale emphasized the EFCC’s responsibility to address economic and financial crimes that could have adverse effects on the economy.
However, he clarified that the arrests do not imply that EFCC operatives are specifically targeting the country’s border regions. Oyewale stated that anything negatively impacting the economy, causing leakage, distortion, or disequilibrium, falls within the EFCC’s purview to address. The spokesperson highlighted that the arrests were made at exit routes leading to Cameroon and Chad due to the effectiveness of surveillance, emphasizing that the smugglers could have been apprehended elsewhere.
He further explained, “They could have also been arrested anywhere else but the most important thing is that they were arrested for allegedly smuggling food items that could be useful to Nigerians, which they were not allowed to take out of the country.” This underlines the EFCC’s commitment to tackling economic offenses and ensuring that essential goods are not unlawfully taken out of the country.
