Vice President Kashim Shettima asserted on Tuesday that President Bola Tinubu is cognizant of Nigeria’s challenges and is committed to taking responsibility rather than assigning blame. Shettima assured the public that Tinubu has the nation’s best interests at heart, emphasizing the government’s dedication to acknowledging and addressing challenges without engaging in finger-pointing.
Speaking at a book launch titled “Beating all Odds: Diaries and Essays on how Bola Tinubu became President” by Sam Omatseye, Shettima commended Tinubu as a “man of courage and conviction.” He highlighted the President’s decisive actions, such as withdrawing the fuel subsidy and streamlining the exchange rate system, as significant steps taken to address economic issues.
Shettima emphasized that leadership involves accepting responsibility and finding solutions to national challenges. He praised Tinubu for his bold decisions in the early days of his presidency, particularly in addressing the long-standing issue of the oil subsidy. Shettima expressed confidence that history would view Tinubu favorably for his leadership.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, represented by Deputy Chief Whip Peter Nwebonyi, echoed the sentiments expressed in the book, urging Nigerians to support the President during the governance phase. Akpabio highlighted the Renewed Hope agenda and called for unity and perseverance to reach the “promised land.”
The event also saw the presence of notable figures such as former Governor of Ogun State, Olusegun Osoba; Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; former National Chairman of the APC and Senator Adams Oshiomhole; and former Governor of Delta State, James Ibori, among others.
In conclusion, Shettima’s remarks aimed to assure the public of Tinubu’s dedication to addressing Nigeria’s challenges, emphasizing the importance of collective support and acknowledging the President’s decisive actions in the early days of his tenure.
