Suspended Lawmakers Take Legal Action Against Zamfara Assembly Speaker And Six Colleagues....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Eight lawmakers suspended from the Zamfara State House of Assembly have taken legal action by filing a lawsuit at the Federal High Court. The lawmakers are contesting what they perceive as violations of their constitutional rights, including freedom, human dignity, fair trial, and the seizure of their assets without proper legal procedures.

The lawsuit targets seven individuals, including the State’s Attorney General, the Commissioner for Justice, the Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly (Bilyaminu Moriki), the House Clerk, the state Commissioner of Police, and the Director of the Department of State Service (DSS).

Justice Aminu Bappa, the presiding judge, has approved the motion and postponed the hearing to April 29 to ensure proper service to respondents who were not served initially due to complaints from the registry.

Following the court session, Ibrahim Ali, the legal representative for the suspended lawmakers, addressed the press, requesting a hearing date to serve the remaining respondents adequately.

According to Ali, his clients allege collusion between the Speaker and law enforcement agencies like the Nigerian Police, Department of State Service, and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to apprehend and prosecute them.

The lawmakers’ legal action stems from an incident where 17 members of the State Assembly forcefully entered the House and conducted a plenary session on February 22. Earlier, during a plenary session, the State House of Assembly, under the Speaker’s leadership, had suspended eight members, accusing them of violating the law and the assembly’s constitution.
