Lawmakers Adjourn Plenary For Easter And Eid Fitri Celebrations

The House of Representatives has decided to adjourn plenary until the 16th of April in observance of the Easter and Eid holidays. Speaker Tajudeen Abbas made the announcement on Wednesday following the conclusion of the day’s plenary session.

Prior to the adjournment, members of the House deliberated and granted approval to two requests put forth by President Bola Tinubu. These requests pertained to extending the implementation period of both the capital component of the 2023 budget and the 2023 supplementary budget. President Tinubu had formally communicated these requests to the House via letter.

In response to the President’s requests, the lawmakers expedited the passage of both bills as requested.

Additionally, during the session, the lawmakers deliberated on and passed another bill forwarded by the President. This bill sought to increase the wages and allowances of judicial officers. President Tinubu had submitted the bill to amend the Judicial Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, Etc) Bill on Tuesday.

Explaining the rationale behind the bill, the President emphasized its aim to establish clearer guidelines for the salaries, allowances, and fringe benefits of Judicial Officers. The objective is to address the prolonged stagnation in their remuneration and to ensure alignment with contemporary socio-economic realities.
