Ohanaeze Youth Appeals To Tinubu: Free Nnamdi Kanu For South-East’s Sake

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, the youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has urged the Federal Government to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in order to restore peace in the South-East region.

Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), made remarks to journalists on Tuesday, expressing his confidence in ending insecurity in the South-East within two minutes of his release from detention. This statement followed his denial of bail by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court. Source

In a statement issued to journalists on Wednesday, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, the National President of the Ohanaeze youth wing, appealed to the government led by President Bola Tinubu to consider leveraging Kanu’s assertion to restore normalcy in the South-East.

Nnabuike emphasized that Kanu’s continued detention was detrimental to the country’s interests, asserting that granting him bail and allowing him to attend his trial from home would be in the best interest of Nigeria’s security.

The statement further highlighted the need for non-kinetic approaches to resolving the security challenges in the country, suggesting that Kanu possesses the capacity to quell the insecurity prevalent in the South-East region.

The Ohanaeze youth president urged President Tinubu not to emulate the actions of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who seemed indifferent to the carnage in the South-East. He cautioned against heeding advice from individuals who may oppose Kanu’s release, suggesting that their motives might not align with the government’s agenda for national security and stability.

Furthermore, Nnabuike warned against perpetuating an unsafe environment in any part of the country, emphasizing the importance of the government’s renewed hope agenda.
