One week subsequent to the Nigeria Customs Service’s decision to reopen the Illela land border connecting Nigeria and Niger Republic, the government of Niger Republic followed suit by opening its border in Konni for operational activities on Friday.
According to Nuhu Samaila, a source who briefed our correspondent from Konni, Niger Republic, the border was officially opened at precisely 12pm on Friday. Samaila commended the decision of the country’s leadership, the military junta, for heeding the desires of the people and ensuring the border’s reopening.
He expressed appreciation for the government’s action, stating, “It is a commendable effort, at least by the government, to have done the needful at last.” Samaila emphasized the collective hope for the border’s reopening, following the earlier reopening of the Nigeria side.
