Matawalle Criticizes NEF Over Alleged North’s Error In Backing Tinubu....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a recent rebuke, Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, slammed the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), dismissing its significance as a mere “political paperweight.” Matawalle’s strong comments were prompted by NEF spokesperson Abdul-Azeez Suleiman’s public expression of regret over the northern region’s support for President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 elections.

Suleiman’s assertion that “the north made a mistake in voting Bola Tinubu to the presidency in 2023, and it is unlikely that they will repeat the same error in the future,” ignited a firestorm in political circles, exposing a fracture in northern political alliances.

Minister Matawalle swiftly responded to the controversy, asserting that NEF holds minimal sway over the broader political landscape of the region. He characterized the forum as a hindrance to progress, accusing it of attempting to undermine the rights of others to bolster its relevance despite the failure of its favored candidates in the 2023 elections.

Matawalle emphasized NEF’s lack of constructive contributions to the future of Northern Nigeria and Nigeria as a whole. He questioned NEF’s motives in attempting to discredit Tinubu’s “overwhelming” victory and criticized the forum’s failure to engage with President Tinubu or relevant government officials on issues affecting the northern region.

Furthermore, Matawalle pointed out NEF’s detachment from reality, accusing the forum of living in a delusion. He underscored NEF’s reluctance to accept the current state of affairs and engage meaningfully with government initiatives aimed at addressing the challenges facing the northern region.

The minister’s sharp critique reflects the growing tensions within northern political circles and raises questions about NEF’s relevance in shaping the region’s political landscape.
